WCMS Weather Team

Click for Charleston, Illinois Forecast

During the month of April 2001, ten eighth grade students from Charleston Middle School prepared daily weather reports for broadcast following the morning annoucements.

They began by locating sources of real-time weather data on the Internet...

...and viewed live TV weather reports to see how professional meteorologists share atmospheric conditions.

They practiced in front of the camera to develop poise and confidence...

...and created a large map of Illinois with symbols to represent different types of weather.

Finally, they shared the latest weather conditions and forecast with their CMS audience.

As a reward for all of their hard work, the CMS Weather Team visited the WCIA-TV studio in Champaign, IL on May 2nd to view a live noon news and weather broadcast and meet the staff. ( Click on the image to go to the site for WCMS Weather Team Visits WCIA-TV )
