A Visit to
WCIA-TV (CBS)
Champaign, IL

On Wednesday, May 2, 2001, the ten members of the WCMS Weather Team and their teachers, EIU student Mr. Finan, Mrs. Zavoral, and Mr. McCollum visited the WCIA-TV studios in Champaign, IL. They were greeted by co-anchor John Valenziano and given a tour of the facilities. They also viewed the live noon news and weather broadcast and were shown on camera at the end of the program.

Our first stop was in the news room where the WCIA staff work at gathering and editing the latest news from around the world.

Next we viewed the control room where they coordinate live camera, graphics, video footage, and commercials for broadcast.

John Valenziano then took us to the studio to view the sets for news, weather, and interviews,....

...and shared how he uses data from the National Weather Service to help compile his forecast.

Prior to the broadcast we gathered on the main set for the WCIA-TV News.

On the air! John uses the green Chroma Key wall to report on the weather...

...but is seen standing in front of a weather map on the monitor.
