Magnetism is the key to understanding the sun. To better
understand the forces involved with magnetism, CMS students observed
magnetic field lines with iron filings, modeled 3-D field lines in a
vegetable oil suspension, created electromagnets, and prepared soda
bottle magnetometers for use in monitoring disturbances in the
Earth's magnetosphere.
