Calendar of Events Sigma Delta Pi Eastern Illinois EIU Hispanic Chapter

Spring 2010
Eventos para este semestre incluyen: 1. Reuniones. Las reuniones este semestre se llevan a cabo los lunes a las 5 de la tarde en el salón de conferencias del Departamento de Lenguas Extranjeras de EIU. 2. Película "Volver" de Almodóvar. Se presentó en el salón 1120 de Coleman Hall el miércoles 10 de febrero de 2010 para un grupo de 10 estudiantes. Se repartieron palomitas de maíz y bebidas gratis a los asistentes. 3. Sigma donó dinero en efectivo al Newman Catholic Center para su programa "Haiti Conection" para ayudar con la recaudación de fondos para las víctimas del terremoto del 11 de Enero en Haiti. 4. En el mes de marzo vamos a participar en varios eventos para celebrar la SEMANA DE LENGUAS EXTRANJERAS en el departamento. Las actividades son: Foreign Language Week (March 9-12) a. Tuesday, March 9 : Mexican Lottery at 6 pm. Rosa Varela, Liz Knutsen, Abby Allgire, and Julia Holocek b. Wednesday, March 10 : game at 7 pm…maybe “matamoscas” and another game (let me know who the volunteers are) Antonio Curcurú, Abby Allgire, Julia Holecek c. Thursday, March 11: “Noche de fotos.” At 6 or 7 pm. People showing their pictures from other countries include: Antonio Curcurú, Gerald Cotiango, and Kenisha Davis.

Spring 2010

Eventos para este semestre incluyen:

Spring 2008
We presented 2 short plays to the general public. " El burrito encantado " a children's play by the Venezuelan dramatist Ramón Méndez. "Historia de un flemón " by Osvaldo Dragún. We sponsored "Spanish Games Night " with the participation of about 20 students. We played "Jeopardy" in Spanish and "Mata moscas" We invited Dr. Kristin Routt to give a presentation about Latin American Food . And afterwards we had a tasting party. Almost all the members of SIGMA made a traditional dish. We had enchiladas, tamales, flan, horchata, sangría and chips and salsa. It was a success. We had around 35 students participate. We also had a movie night. There were around 20 people attending to see an Almodóvar movie.

Spring 2008

September 30th, 2007 Initiation Ceremony of new members, , September, 2008 Initiation Ceremony of new members October 30&31, 2008- Halloween candy sale November - Update of website, Haiti Connection sponsorship, member tee-shirts and bulletin board During our September 2008 initiation ceremony we inducted seven new members. Our updated Sigma bulletin board includes pictures of the new officers, an events section, and a Spanish club events section among other things. The Halloween candy sale went great. Sigma got together to prepare 100 bags of candy and we are glad to report that all of the bags were sold!!! We are also sponsoring the Haiti Connection banquet which raises awareness about world hunger. We are currently updating our website and soon we will be sporting Sigma tee-shirts!
