Geography 3025: The Geography of the United States and
Canada
Fall Semester, 2008
Place Name List
It is assumed that students taking this course know the location of states, provinces,
larger physical features (i.e., major mountain ranges, major rivers and lakes)
and the major cities of the US and Canada. The following place name list
focuses on a selection of sub-regional areas that have outstanding
characteristics. You are expected to know both the location and
characteristics of these areas. The majority of the place names can be
found in the textbook, so use the text index as well as other maps and sources
to locate them and determine their significance. The others will be
discussed in class. This process is also good preparation for examinations.
*These are place names we’ll discuss in-depth in class and their locations may vary from those listed in your book.
