This course is designed for students beginning the English major. We will consider together what it is that serious students of literature do, how we do what we do, and why we do literary studies at all.
Format. There are three sections of this course, each with its own instructors. The other instructors (Professors Randall Beebe and Christopher Hanlon) and I have worked together to plan some collaborative activities, and we have agreed on three major reading experiences that all three sections will share. We hope that interacting with your fellow English majors across the sections will help you begin to connect with the departmental culture and to develop a sense of our shared interests and values.
Syllabus. Coming over the summer--as soon as I have the syllabus together, I'll post it in this space.
Summer reading. What are you reading this summer? Keep a reading journal so you can share your favorite summer reading with classmates in the fall.
