Wildlife Ecology and Management |
|
Dr. Nelson is a professor of Biological Sciences, coordinator of EIU’s Environmental Biology Program and serves on the Illinois Endangered Species Board. His research interests include the effective stewardship of wildlife populations and a deeper understanding of the factors that affect them, particularly in highly developed agricultural and urban landscapes. He and his students address applied questions in population biology, natural history, and the conservation of mammals. His work focuses on the influences of fragmentation and landscape change on habitat use and population dynamics. In addition, Dr. Nelson teaches undergraduate courses in ecology and mammalogy, and graduate courses in wildlife management, landscape ecology, and the history of science. Graduate students interested in working with him should be broadly trained in ecology with some experience conducting field studies. |
