Completed Historic District Nomination Filed With Commission

 

Commission Renders a Preliminary Determination  (preliminary determination must be rendered with 30 days of application filing)

Preliminary Determination Approved	Preliminary Determination Denied Submitter Notified

 

Commission Schedules a Public Hearing  Public hearing to be held with (30) days of preliminary Hearing

   

Notice of date,tiem, place and purpose of the public hearing shall be sent by mail to owner(s) of record and to the nominators, as well as to the adjoining(those properties abutting the proposed district) property not less than fifteen (15) nor more than thirty (30) days  prior to the date of the hearing  A notice of public hearing also shall be published in a newspaper having general circulation in the City of Charleston.  The notice shall state the location of the property and summarize how the proposed district meets the criteria set forth in Historic District Criteria.  City Staff shall type said notice and notify nominator.

 

The nominator shall deliver notice to local newspaper and bear the cost of legal notice publication in local newspaper

 

Commission Holds Public Hearing  The Commission shall review and evaluate the application according to the criteria established by ordinance

(This hearing must be held within 30 days of the Commission's preliminary hearing)

Historic District  Application Approved	Historic District  Application Denied
Owners of record notified by letter

   

Commissions evaluation, recommendation and  information submitted to the City Council within 10 days of the commission's hearing

 

City Council Votes on Historic Discrict  Application

 

Historic District  Application Approved	Historic District  Application Denied
Property Owners Notified   Nominator Notified  Planing Department Notified   Building Inspector Notified   City Clerk Notified   Application Recorded with County Recorder of Deeds
