About Me

I am a mathematics educator and my responsibilities in the department include teaching of various mathematics education courses (content, methods, and topics), advising students in the teacher certification program, being the director of the curriculum resource center, and working with graduate students.

I enjoy teaching my students immensely. In my classroom, students experience a great amount of discussions and collaborative work as a significant skill for them to learn mathematics and to become an excellent future teacher of mathematics.

I was a 3rd grade math teacher for the gifted students at Carl Sandburg Elementary School in Charleston, Illinois in 2010 -2012. During my postdoctoral study in 2001-2003, I worked for the UIC- Community College Collaborative for Excellence in Teacher Preparation, an NSF-funded project (PI Phil Wagreich, University of Illinois at Chicago), conducting evaluative research on faculty development and curricular development. I also worked for the development of a mathematics curriculum, Cryptography. The Mathematics of Secret Codes (Principal investigators: Drs. Janet Beissinger and Vera Pless).

I completed my Ph.D degree in mathematics education at the University of Georgia, Athens in 1999 under the direction of Dr. Jeremy Kilpatrick.
