Ribe is a town in southwestern Denmark, which bills itself as "Denmark's oldest and best preserved town" (www.ribetourist.dk). The town was founded around the beginning of the eight century as a market place. In 1580, a fire destroyed nearly all of the town. Much of the reconstruction from the 17th century onward remains, protected by historical preservation ordinances which have been in effect since 1960.

This makes walking around the old part of town really pretty cool. The city has played up its role as a tourist attraction. One aspect is the Night Watchman's tour, where the Watchman walks around the city pointing out interesting buildings, and singing the "Watchman's Song".

Its almost too cute.

This is a picture of the Watchman.

I don't know the lady in the red coat.
