Course Goals
To develop an understanding
of fishes as a major functional component of aquatic ecosystems, both
freshwater and marine.
To reinforce previously acquired biological knowledge by applying it to a specific taxonomic group, i.e., fishes.
To develop practical skills and competence in fish identification and a working knowledge of local freshwater species.

Project
A grant proposal dealing with a topic relating to fish biology is required. The topic for the project must be submitted by October 6, 2001 to obtain full credit. The final project is due no later than December 1, 2001. Additional information about the project will be given at a later date.
Pop-Quizzes and Hand-in Projects
Short quizzes will be given on an irregular and unannounced schedule. In addition, short assignments, such as reading and outlining journal articles as well as worksheets will be given throughout the semester.
