Commission Renders a Preliminary Determination 
(preliminary determination must be rendered with 15 days of application filing)

Affected landowner or occupier may file written request for a public hearing to determine the appropriateness of the preliminary determination
If a written request is filed and upon 5 days notice the commission shall hold a public hearing on the appropriateness of the preliminary determination - at this hearing the commission may take the following action
 
 
Commission Affirms Preliminary Determination Commission Affirms Preliminary Determination with exceptions or conditions Commission Denies the Preliminary Determination
 
At least 15 days prior to a public hearing  A notice of the public hearing on the landmark application must be sent by mail to the owners of record, the nominator and adjoining property owners.  A public hearing notice also shall be published in a newspaper having general circulation in the City of Charleston.  The notice shall state the location of the property and include a statement summarizing how the landmark meets the criteria set forth. City staff shall type said notice and notify nominator; nominator shall deliver notice to local newspaper.  (The nominator shall bear the cost of legal notice publication
Commission Holds Public Hearing At City Hall
(This hearing must be held within 30 days of the filing of the initial landmark application)
Landmark Application Approved
Landmark Application Denied
Owner of record notified by letter
 
 
Commissions evaluation, recommendation and  information submitted to the City Council within 10 days of the commission's hearing
 
City Council Votes on Landmark Application
 
Landmark Application Approved
Landmark Application Denied
Property Owner Notified  
Planing Department Notified  
Building Inspector Notified  
City Clerk Notified  
Application Recorded with County Recorder of Deeds 
(Nominator pays fee ????)
