Solutions for Problem #117 Spontaneous recognition of the alphabet

Spontaneous recognition can be an outgrowth of more spontaneous activities. Take a small group of children around the school (include this boy) look at signs and posters, point to letters and ask the children to identify them. He may respond to the first few inquiries with the rehearsal.  Those types of prelude responses are hard to break.  I had a child do it with numeral recognition.  He may need the extra reinforcement or you can start out by saying the letters with him and gradually stopping. However, with young readers who have some challenges, those habits are hard to break.  Best of luck to you. (4.10.02)
