This schedule will be modified as needed. There
are some very new internet tools that may be inserted into the schedule when
available.
Text: Sedimentary Geology 2nd edition by Prothero and Schwab with supplemental
readings in Regional Stratigraphy of North America by Frazier and Schwimmer
Lab manual: Handbook of Illinois Stratigraphy
by Willman and others
Required materials: 10-20-30 triangular scale, 9"X12" vellum (packets
available in bookstore) and flash drive.
Grades based on a combination of percent and class
rank. Attendance and timely submission of lab work and assignments are required
and will affect grades. Students are expected to have read relevant material
prior to class. There will be exams, several lab projects, several book and
article reviews, special reading assignments, an "electronic term paper",
a final field project, student presentations, and quizzes, e-mail and computer
work. Exams will include questions on the assigned reading. Details concerning
required field work will be provided at a later date. Students may be expected
to attend the regional Geological Society of America meeting. The Kaskaskia,
Zuni, Absaroka, and Tejas cratonic sequences
will be highlighted if time permits.
Study aids will be available on the WWW from the
instructors home page at http://www.ux1.eiu.edu/~rbjorstad/
