 Problem & Solution Research Paper

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION RESEARCH PAPER

GOAL: To select an issue that foreign language teachers encounter and propose a solution, based on the research in current foreign language periodicals found in Booth Library.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Read a minimum of five articles (minimum length per article = 3 pages) to form a research base. Please footnote references to these articles (may use endnotes) or other sources. Submit a xeroxed copy of each article with your finished paper. In addition to print media, Internet articles are also acceptable and you will be given some sites to investigate.

2. The paper should be 5 - 6 pages in length, typed, and double-spaced. It is due _____________________ .

3. Your topic may be language specific (i.e., focusing on the teaching of French or Spanish) or of interest to all language teachers.

4. Your topic must be approved by February 16, 1999.

5. In addition to preparing your paper in written form, you will share your problem and solution with the class on Tuesday, March 9, 1999. Plan to present your findings in 5 - 8 minutes, allowing another 5 minutes for questions/answers.

a. How can you promote foreign language teaching in your high school?

b. How do you make classroom activities relevant to the "real world"?

c. What current technology can be used to enhance foreign language learning/teaching?

d. How does cooperative learning work in the foreign language classroom? Advantages? Disadvantages?

e. Creative methods of teaching foreign languages: how to keep students interested for four years.
