Welcome to Organic Chemistry II for Spring 2013 !!

Hopefully this comes as no big surprise to you, but this course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry I.  I will not be beginning with a lengthy review, and I will be expecting you to remember and be able to use the material you learned in Organic I.   I have posted a list of the most important topics, as well as a reaction overview sheet for alkenes/alkynes, and some example problems (with answers) that you may want to look over.

I also realize that I am most likely not your Organic I lecture instructor.  While the content between instructors should be the same more or less (save some emphasis), the format and delivery can vary.  So for that reason, I've posted some materials from my Organic I classes - you may want to look this over to see what type of questions I ask and what my questions look like.

Given the classroom and class size, I'll be delivering most lecture material by chalkboard, and you should probably have a fairly thick notebook to last through the course.

We'll usually have a quiz every week, and the top 10 quizzes will go towards your final grade (usually there will be 14-15 quizzes total).  Quizzes will usually be just the front and back of a sheet, and done during the last 15-20min of the class.

If you ask anyone from my course about my exams, they will probably tell you that they are long, and that you need to be on top of your game to get through the exam in time.  At least a week before each exam, I'll post a copy of previous exam for you to look at as a practice exam, with answers.  Note that you want to understand the material on the practice exam, not memorize it, as I very rarely repeat a question.

Lastly, please feel free to stop by and/or contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  This applies throughout the course.

Have a good break and I'll see you in January
