What CAUSES motion?
Kinematics describes motion.
We have already described one-dimensional motion,
and two-dimensional motion,
Dynamics deals with the explantion of motionNow we will look at cause and effect. Why does something move?
Why does something CONTINUE to move?
What causes something to STOP once it is moving?
These are questions of Dynamics.
Sir Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727) built upon the ideas of Galileo. Newton's three Laws of Motion are general, universal LAWS that explain a wide range of situations.
(Newton also invented Calculus and made great contributions in Optics, including inventing the reflecting telescope).
