Appreciative Inquiry
Career and
Organizational Studies program
Appreciative inquiry is a strength-based
organizational development model. Theoretical concepts provide a
framework for students to explore practical skills necessary to apply
appreciative inquiry principles to improve the performance of a variety
of
organizations.
COS 4840, Training Program Development
Career and Organizational Studies
A study of the knowledge and field of practice associated with
developing employer sponsored learning programs for the purpose of
improving the on-the-job work performance aligned with business
needs. This course focuses on how to establish and implement
training programs in public and private sector organizations, with an
emphasis on establishing positive client relationships,
conducting needs assessments, developing training program proposals,
designing training programs, developing training budgets, providing
financial analysis and fiscal justifications, as well as conducting
program evaluations and impact assessments.

Coaching and Mentoring for Supervisors
Career and Organizational Studies program
Supervisors,
educators, and
other leaders continually seek to help others expand and apply their
skills,
knowledge, and abilities to workplace responsibilities and performance.
Participants will analyze and practice the theories, principles, and
strategies
for supervision in the workplace. Particular attention will be given to
the
role of coaching and mentoring in the supervisory process.
COS 4860, Facilitating Learning and Project Groups
Career and Organizational Studies program
Education,
training, and learning systems designers are increasingly recognizing
the power of groups and teams to enhance and sustain learning.
Participants in this course will learn about and be able to practice
the multiple roles and responsibilites needed for effective
facilitation to maximize group effectiveness.

Productive Work Teams
Career and
Organizational Studies program
Teamwork and work teams are the focus of the
majority of productivity improvement and quality of work efforts in
most
organizations today. Participants learn about and are able to practice
the
multiple roles and responsibilities needed for effective work teams.
Likewise,
participants learn about and are able to practice state-of-the-art
techniques applicable
to temporary systems ranging from ad hoc committees and project teams
to intact
permanent work teams.<>
COS 4890, Accelerated Learning and Training
Career and Organizational Studies program
This research-based, applications oriented, highly experiential course
connects research to practice using accelerated learning prinicples to
accelerate learning and training. Proven methods are practiced in
the class. Brain-based research, learning theory, and acclerated
learning best practices are used as the basis to design and facilitate
learning.

I presently design and conduct training programs, assist with
staff development, lead organizational change efforts, and provide
program design assistance to staff of the Mental Health Center.

adult mental health services at this community-based
nonprofit, including community support, independent and supported
housing, services to the homeless, and medical services.
responsibilities include organizational improvement projects,
developing and monitoring progress toward goals, grant
development and management, as well as managing the on-going operations

30 years experience in the addiction
treatment field working as a counselor and administrator in substance
abuse
crisis intervention, outpatient treatment, residential treatment, and
corrections. I began my career in 1974 at a local drug hotline and
crisis
intervention program called Gemini House. We operated with a
consensus-based decision model that would later inspire me to explore
the power
of teamwork and leadership models in social service organizations.
Substance abuse experience includes work as Addictions
Counselor, Operations Manager,
Residential Facility Director, and Associate Director for
Champaign and Ford Counties. Responsible for
approximately 70 employees and 15 programs including drug court, a
correctional
halfway house, residential treatment, detoxification, outpatient, and
prevention services.
