2. (4 pts) In the boxes provided, draw both chair conformations of cis-1-ethyl-4-methyl-cyclohexane. Label each non-H substituent as axial (ax) or equatorial (eq). If one conformation is more stable than the other, circle it, and, on the lines below, explain your decision.


 If one is more stable, explain your reasoning here:

In both conformations #1 and #2, one of the substituents must be axial and the other must be equatorial.  Since ethyl is a larger substituent than methyl, it is better that it be equatorial than axial, so conformation #1 is more stable than conformation #2.
3. (2 pts) The molecule in the box is called Penicillin G, one of the many penicillin derivatives that have saved countless thousands of lives since their discovery just before World War II. Draw the non-condensed formula of the compound, i.e., accounting for every atom, no shortcuts, etc. Draw this in the blank box provided below.
