Map Exercise 1:
North Africa and Southwest Asia

Using a pencil, fine point pen or colored pencils, fill in the outline map with the features listed below.  Use the maps on pages 296-297 in your textbook or your atlas for reference.  Remember, neatness counts!

1. Label the countries of Islamic North Africa (i.e., label those countries that are not shaded on your outline map. This may differ from the textbook definition of the region.)  Also, indicate the countries that correspond to the Maghreb region (consult your textbook.) (Map 1)

2. Locate and label the countries associated with the Arabian Peninsula, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Northeast. (Map 2)

3. Use a dot to indicate the capitals of the countries of North Africa (Map 1) and label them.  Additionally, locate and label the following cities: Istanbul, Riyadh, Mecca (Makkah), Medina (Madinah), Tel Aviv, Damascus, Baghdad, Tehran. (Map 2)

4. Label the following water bodies (on either map):
-the Nile River
-the Mediterranean Sea
-the Red Sea
-the Persian Gulf
